Classical music, flamenco from Seville and jazz come together for two evenings at the Alte Oper Nights. The dynamism of the city and the overlapping sensory impressions in Steve Reich's stirring homage to New York can be physically felt. There are imaginary journeys to Tokyo, Glasgow and Palermo. And the city of Istanbul - itself a melting pot of cultures - is given a musical memorial in a fascinating mix of contemporary classical music, jazz, electro and Anatolian influences. Parallel to the musical city hopping in the halls of the theatre, there will be talks and other events in the salons, curated by the non-profit Hertie Foundation. After the concerts, visitors can feel the rhythm in the 'Club' late into the night: our DJs bring danceable beats to the Albert Mangelsdorff Foyer.
