‘Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine’ are the title-giving opening words of every requiem - “Lord grant them eternal rest”. Giuseppe Verdi made one of the most popular, but also one of the most atypical contributions to the genre, as he formulated the wish for eternal rest in a surprisingly loud way in his requiem mass. Verdi's Requiem is rebellious, powerful, dramatic and highly emotional, the work of a composer who knew how to write for the stage. Speaking of the stage: in the joint participatory project of the Alte Oper and the European Central Bank, the stage belongs not only to musicians from the University of Music, but also to interested amateur singers from Frankfurt Rhine-Main, Germany and Europe. The Alte Oper is once again calling for participation in the Enthusiastenchor and invites all singing enthusiasts from soprano to bass to perform Verdi's powerful Requiem setting together.
