A street goes to a concert
The community project is entering a new roundMusic brings people together - which is why the Alte Oper would like to bring the residents of a street in Frankfurt together in a special musical community project. The basic idea: residents of a street who are interested in music, i.e. neighbors beyond their own household, are not only invited to the Alte Oper together, but can also benefit from the concert hall's expertise directly at home and organize concerts for and with their neighborhood themselves. After all, music is ideally suited to strengthening or even creating bonds with other people.
Following the first edition of the project in the 2024/25 season, the Alte Oper is once again looking for a committed street community for the 2025/26 season who would like to organize joint musical experiences and get to know the Alte Oper in the process.
From now until April 25, 2025, street communities from the Frankfurt city area can apply to take part.
In your street - and in our house
The community project takes place in two locations - in the Alte Oper and in the participating “street”. The participants attend several concerts at the Alte Oper. We, the Alte Oper, in turn, take the music into people's homes, into their living rooms, their backyards, their squares. For example, we make musicians “available” for house concerts. We provide young talents for relaxed backyard music, and we also help to introduce the participants to active music-making themselves.
Commitment required
In all of this, you, the residents, have to find each other before we can get involved! And you yourself are asked to get actively involved in organizing concerts or other cultural events, encounters or festivals in your street, where people can come together and enjoy music.
The project is free of charge for you. You contribute your willingness to get actively involved and the Alte Oper bears the project costs, such as the fees for musicians performing in your area and the cost of tickets for your concert visits. The Alte Oper will also provide you with an experienced project manager.
Are you interested?
Contact us by April 25, 2025 and briefly introduce yourself or the people on your street. Street communities that applied last year are welcome to apply again. Applications from the Frankfurt city area are eligible.
A jury consisting of representatives of the Alte Oper, the Polytechnische Gesellschaft Foundation and the City of Frankfurt will select a street community from the applications received, which will then be supported in the implementation of their creative ideas from September 2025 to early summer 2026.
The team from the beginning
"Wolfsweide and friends" made the startIn the first edition of the project in the current 2024/25 season, the “Wolfsweide and friends” team came out on top among the applicants. The core team of residents from the street “An der Wolfsweide” in Preungesheim came up with a comprehensive concept that embedded the musical experience in an overall experience for all the senses.
After the kick-off - a joint concert visit to the Alte Oper at the opening of the 2024/25 season - the residents have already organized a musical Advent calendar contribution with the support of the Alte Oper and a culinary-musical evening with jazz pianist Omer Klein. Plans for the coming months include a walking concert as a “musical stroll through the estate”, an evening with a silent film on the house wall and live music, as well as a large street party. Regular concert visits to the Alte Oper are an integral part of the project, and the activities will also be accompanied by a podcast project by the street community.
