A street goes to a concert

Music brings people together: With a new project, the Alte Oper wants to bring the residents of a street in Frankfurt together in a special musical community project. The basic idea: residents of a street who are interested in music, i.e. neighbours beyond their own house community, are not only invited to the Alte Oper together, but can also benefit from the expertise of the concert hall directly in their own homes and organise concerts for and with their neighbourhood themselves. After all, music is ideally suited to strengthening or even creating bonds with other people. The application process for the first edition has been completed, the jury has selected a street from the twelve applications, and the first links between the participating street and the Konzerthaus will be established at the start of the 2024/25 season.

The "Wolfsweide and friends" team from the Preungesheim neighbourhood came out on top from a total of twelve applications from all over the city - the written presentation and personal introduction of the team impressed the jury, which was made up of representatives from the Alte Oper, the Polytechnische Gesellschaft Foundation and the City of Frankfurt. The winning team, represented by 13 residents of the street, would like to strengthen the neighbourhood and ensure more intensive interaction, create activities for children and bring young and old together. A street festival is to be established, and the aim is also to positively develop the external image of the street and the neighbourhood, which is often associated solely with the prison. The team has advertised itself as "Wolfsweide and friends" because some neighbouring streets are also to be involved in the activities.

The project will officially kick off at the opening of the 2024/25 season on 14 September 2024, when a large group from "Wolfsweide" will attend the concert with the Dresden Saxon State Orchestra.
