Wim Wenders: Driven by Music
The filmmaker in Frankfurt
Over the course of more than five decades, he has created architectures in time that remain in the memory: Moving images, once seen, never forgotten'. This is how Juliette Binoche paid tribute to director Wim Wenders in December 2024. The occasion was the presentation of the European Film Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award. Indeed, Wenders' moving and no less moving images have left a lasting impression - just think of the winged Bruno Ganz in "Wings of Desire", the livesculpted faces of the Buena Vista grandees or the personified serenity on the park bench in "Perfect Days". Music plays a central role in the director's exuberant oeuvre, as a source of structure and emotion, but also as a theme in its own right. It is precisely these links between film and music that the Alte Oper is exploring in a three-day festival for and with Wim Wenders.
