Conclusion and discussion with the evening's performersThe calendar shows December 1902, when Maurice Ravel began a string quartet. He worked on it for over a year. It was to remain his only contribution to this supreme compositional discipline. All the more reason, then, to regard it today as a milestone in his artistic career. In this work, the 28-year-old Ravel provided a deep insight into his compositional workshop - and more: it reveals the development of his own unmistakable personal style. In a new edition of '2 × hören', Ravel's String Quartet is the focus of attention: the work is performed twice - once before and once after a discussion with Artistic Director Markus Fein about the form of the work, the background to its composition and its significance in music history - as well as about the performers' personal approaches: The Leonkoro Quartet has only been together for five years, but has already risen to the top league of string quartets with breathtaking speed.
