Concerts by the Berliner Philharmoniker are always among the highlights of the programme at the Alte Oper. This was the case in the autumn of 2023, when the orchestra created boundless enthusiasm in the hall with Strauss's Heldenleben. It was the same last year, when Petrenko and the Berliners stopped off in Frankfurt on the eve of a major US tour and performed a brilliant Bruckner Fifth Symphony. And it will be the same again this November, when Kirill Petrenko and the Berliner Philharmoniker accept an invitation to return to the Alte Oper. This time, Brahms's First Symphony is on the programme - an example of the composer's finely woven, chamber-music-influenced music for which the orchestra and its chief conductor have developed a particular feel, and which is also inextricably linked with the orchestra's history.
