Conclusion with the participants of the eveningAt the start of the season, the Ensemble Modern shows just how international new music is. Composer Zosha de Castri hails from Canada and her often unpredictable sounds captivate musicians and listeners alike. Her Irish colleague Jennifer Walshe, whose ensemble piece 'Some Notes on Martian Sonic Aesthetics' aims to give new impetus to the musical life of our red neighbour, is characterised by a desire to play with ideas. The Brazilian Ricardo Eizirik, on the other hand, looked into a completely different world, that of expressionist German silent films of the 1920s, and sent a greeting to Metropolis director Fritz Lang with 'moloch machine'. A newly commissioned work by Spanish composer and violinist Diego Ramos Rodríguez, a former Academy member who has long been associated with the Ensemble Modern, will be heard for the first time this evening.
