Happy ninetieth birthday, Helmut Lachenmann! This milestone birthday gives the Ensemble Modern the opportunity to congratulate an old friend and companion and to refresh memories. For example, the Lucerne premiere of the ensemble piece 'Concertini' in 2005 - a masterpiece in which the inventor of instrumental musique concrète takes stock of his compositional achievements over many decades. Just like the music of the grand master from Stuttgart, Unsuk Chin, winner of the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 2024, invites us on an expedition into the labyrinth of sounds with her piece 'Graffiti'. As an expert guide in this fantastic world, the Ensemble Modern has invited another trusted friend and colleague to the podium: Sylvain Cambreling, whom Frankfurt audiences will remember fondly as General Music Director of the Opera from 1992 to 1997.
