This is the sound of Frankfurt's youth, this is the sound of Hesse's youth: on the second day of the festival, the Hessian State Youth Orchestra will face off against a specially formed 'City Youth Orchestra'. School orchestras from the Bettinaschule, Elisabethenschule, Wöhlerschule and Gymnasium Nord spent six months rehearsing a concert programme for the festival and then joined together to form a full project orchestra. The crowning glory of the project is the joint morning concert of this Frankfurt School Philharmonic Orchestra in the Great Hall, which marks the beginning of a lavishly organised festival day:
Throughout the day, the Alte Oper welcomes ensembles and initiatives that present forward-looking ideas and formats or use music to engage with society. Among the guests will be the Berlin-based programme Hangarmusik, which is dedicated to the integration of refugee children and young people through collaborative music-making in an orchestra. Other formats will explore the appeal and limitations of digital offerings and new ways of presenting music in the concert hall. The festival programme also includes activities for children and young people; a virtual reality experience all about Beethoven and an instrument carousel with the opportunity to try out orchestral instruments.
