Who accompanies whom here? The organ with the singing or the choir with the organ? In the case of the long-standing collaboration between Iveta Apkalna and the Latvija State Choir, the answer is as difficult as it is irrelevant. The joint programme not only mixes classical organ literature with works by contemporary composers, but also the registers and sound sources are impressive. The exquisite Latvian choral tradition meets the playing of one of the world's leading organists in this concert, which takes us from Byrd, Bach and Britten to the present day. Incidentally, the organist is very familiar with the instrument that awaits her in Frankfurt: Iveta Apkalna has regularly taken her place at the console of the great Schuke organ for the past ten years, and will also be thrilling audiences at the Fratopia Festival in 2022 with a similarly 'space-filling' choir organ project.
