Programme
Quickly swap worlds, bathe in sound and let music get under your skin: The Alte Oper is making this possible again this season, providing an artistic break in the middle of the busy everyday life that will make you sit up and take notice. For the last date of the season, the Sitkovetsky Trio will centre on a work that countered its sombre period of composition with rhythmic exuberance and tonal opulence: in 1914, shortly after the outbreak of the First World War, Maurice Ravel completed his only piano trio. Soon afterwards, he was to go into voluntary military service and be confronted with the horrors of the ‘primal catastrophe of the 20th century’. This impressive work has recently become a signature piece for the Sitkovetsky Trio, for whose interpretation it has received unanimous praise.
