Conclusion and discussion with the evening's performersRobert Schumann composed four character pieces for viola and piano in 1851. They are imaginative, evocative, simple, 'in the tone of the people' and have a lot to tell. When he first set them down in writing, they were called 'Viola Stories'. There could not be a more fitting title for a composition that has accompanied Tabea Zimmermann throughout her musical life. In the course of her outstanding career, the performer has produced countless 'viola stories' herself - and even more: she has written history for her instrument. In the 2 × hören series, Tabea Zimmermann, together with Isabell von Bernstorff and in dialogue with artistic director Markus Fein, now presents Schumann's cycle, which has been known under the title 'Märchenbilder' since its first publication.
